Sources
All player information comes from two open sources:
- Wikidata, the free knowledge base of the Wikimedia Foundation, published under the CC0 licence: identity, dates, nationality, positions, height, weight, successive clubs;
- English and French Wikipedia, published under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence: player and club infoboxes (current club, caps and points, career, club colours).
Every player card links to its source Wikipedia articles. The site uses no photograph, logo or jersey.
How the database is built
A program reads these sources every night, merges the information with fixed rules (the most recent infobox wins over Wikidata), checks the consistency of every record (height, weight, age, career dates) and only publishes the new version when every check passes. No data is typed or corrected by hand.
Report an error
Every player card has a “Report an error” button. Reports are checked automatically: if the source has been fixed in the meantime, the fix is picked up the following night; if several players independently propose the same correction, it is applied temporarily until the source is updated. The best way to fix a piece of data for good is still to improve it directly on Wikipedia or Wikidata.
Reuse the data
The Rugby Games player database is redistributed under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. You may reuse it, including commercially, as long as you credit Rugby Games, Wikipedia and Wikidata, and share your changes under the same licence.
