How to play

Guess the rugby player from the clubs he has played for. At the start, you only see the first step of his career: his training club or first professional club, with the years he spent there. Type a name and pick a player from the suggestions.

Every wrong guess reveals the next step, in order: each club he moved to, loans included, and finally his national team. You have 6 guesses in all, so the sooner you recognise the career, the better your score.

Your score is the number of steps you saw before finding him. When the game ends, his whole career is revealed and you can share a spoiler-free result: one rugby ball per step revealed, then a tick if you found him or a cross if you did not. A new player arrives every day at midnight, the same for everyone.

Tips

  • Look at the years as well as the club: the dates of the first step give you a good idea of the player's age.
  • Don't worry if the first club means nothing to you: it is often a training club, and the next steps are usually more telling.
  • Loans count as steps, so a short spell at a smaller club often points to a young player getting game time.
  • If no name comes to mind, guess a player who fits the clubs shown so far: even a wrong answer reveals the next step.
  • Each new club narrows the field: look for someone who passed through every club shown, in that order, rather than the biggest name at the latest one.

FAQ

Is it a rugby Wordle?

In spirit, yes: Career Path is a daily guessing game, with one puzzle for everyone, in which each wrong answer brings a new clue. Here the clues are the clubs of a rugby career, and the game is not affiliated with Wordle.

When does the new puzzle come out?

Every day at midnight in your local time, with the same player for everyone on a given date. If you like, you can sign up for a daily reminder email: you confirm your address once and can unsubscribe in one click.

Where does the data come from?

Careers come from Wikidata (CC0) and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) and are updated automatically every night, so a very recent transfer can take a few days to appear. You can report an error from the player card at the end of the game, and corrections are applied automatically after several matching reports.

Can I replay old puzzles?

Yes. The archive keeps every past day, and the unlimited mode serves up random careers as often as you like, even offline once loaded. Neither counts towards your streak.

What counts as a step?

Each club of his career is a step, in order, starting with his training club or first professional club, and loans count too. His national team comes last.

How is my score calculated?

Your score is the number of steps you saw before naming him, so the fewer, the better. The shared result shows one rugby ball per step revealed, then a tick if you found him or a cross if you did not.

What happens if I run out of guesses?

After 6 guesses without the right name, the game ends and the player is revealed along with his whole career. The game then counts as a loss in your statistics.

Who can be the player of the day?

Daily players come from the World edition, the only edition of this game, and always have a complete, dated career with at least three senior steps.

Is there a hints page?

Yes. The "Hints and answer" page reveals hints one at a time, and the answer stays behind a button until you decide to look.

Do I need an account?

No. Rugby Games is free and needs no account: your statistics and streaks stay on your device, and you can move them to another one with an export code from the Settings page.
